The war of Rivals - Wix vs WordPress

Updated: May 30, 2020

If you've done any form of online research, in relation to webdesign, at some point you've come across blogs, comparing WordPress to Wix, and usually the writer will recommend one over the other. But how much weight should you put in these types of blogs? VERY LITTLE in relation to opinion!

I personally have no opinion in this 'war' of Wix vs WordPress - actually, I have used platforms to create sites. Although research is very important, opinions aren't. At the end of the day, it's about what fits your needs, budget and skill set - especially if you want to self manage your site yourself.

So before you start your hunt, think about the following:

  1. Are you going to self manage, and if so how much experience do you have in relation to webdesign?

  2. If you are going to self manage, how much time do you have to manage your site? If you are not going to self manage, what is your budget for hiring someone to do so?

  3. What is your business and what do you need your site to do for you? Are you looking to blog, create an online store, showcase your portfolio, sell Real Estate etc? All of these will play a factor when you decide who to choose and how you manage.

  4. What is your budget? This is very important because you don't want your costs spiraling out of control, but that said, you need to have a realistic budget / flexible one.

Now you have an idea of what you will bring, your budget and needs, you are set to begin your search. Just remember, although Wix and WordPress seem to be at the top of the list, you also have other options such as SquareSpace and VistaPrint etc. and really it does come down to you, your needs and your own informed opinion. So, don't think you need to choose one over the other and pick a 'side' or listen to opinions. Do what's right for you! You got this!
